When you go to uninstall a program that you've downloaded, that program usually turns to the Registry to find a set of instructions for cleanly removing itself--that is, vanishing without a trace, all missing links mopped up.

Now, when you installed the program there should have been uninstall instructions that came with it and thus became stored in your computer's Windows Registry.

But, if your Registry is gummed up with garbage or it's corrupt, those instructions for the program to access won't be there or they won't be readable by the program -- and it won't be able to uninstall itself.

Your Registry needs to be kept clean.
